Yesterday we got to gather around the font to celebrate a young infant's baptism. We heard the splash of the water, read the promises, and remembered who we belong to. It was a beautiful, sacred morning.

But today is Monday. The sanctuary is empty, and we’re all back to the regular routine, dodging those orange cones, bracing for the jump in the summer electric bill, and wondering how groceries just keep getting more expensive.

If you turn on the news or scroll through your phone, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Everything feels incredibly loud right now. The world seems to be shouting at us, constantly ramping up the anxiety.

And then we hit our daily scripture for today. Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica: "But we urge you, beloved... to aspire to live quietly, to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we directed you."

It almost sounds like a joke. The Apostle Paul’s big spiritual advice is to mind our own business and do our chores?

He's completely serious, though. We live in a culture obsessed with status, influence, and having an opinion on everything. Paul is reminding us that there is deep holiness in an ordinary, quiet life.

You don't have to save the world today. You don't need to engage in every loud argument online or carry the weight of every global crisis on your shoulders. Christ already took care of the heavy lifting.

Faithfulness is really just ordinary stuff. Sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is just love the people in your immediate orbit. It's showing up for your shift. It's pulling the weeds in the garden. It's the patience you show the tired cashier at the store. It's the quiet, steady rhythm of a life rooted in God's grace rather than the world's panic.

Give yourself permission to embrace the quiet today. Let the world be loud. You are already known, claimed, and loved, we splashed the water yesterday to prove it. You are free to just go about your Monday doing good, simple work.

Prayer:
Lord, the world is so loud, and we get swept up in the noise before we even realize it. Give us the grace to live quietly. Help us to work with our hands, love the people right in front of us, and trust that you are holding the rest. Amen.
