We gather this evening at 6:00 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 508 Indiana Ave., Chester.

The ancient words of Isaiah echo through the cross: "He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the punishment that made us whole, and by his bruises we are healed."

What does it mean to say "It is finished"? Not that it is over - but that it is complete. The debt is paid. The distance between God and humanity has been bridged. The last, greatest act of love has been carried out not from a throne, but from a cross.

Today is not a day for easy words. We are invited to stand at the foot of the cross and stay there for a while. To resist the urge to rush to Sunday. His arms are stretched wide - not in defeat, but in welcome.

Prayer: Crucified Lord, we do not fully understand what you did for us. But we receive it. Thank you for going where we could not go, for paying what we could not pay, for loving us all the way to the end. Amen.
